幸運を手にした者はそれを分かち合うべきと考えます。

そこで私は２つの聖地に投資しています。

私が主たる住居を構えるのは京都です。ここは庭、茶の湯、能、書や芸術に関する伝統工芸が時間を超えて西洋の侵略を逃れた純粋な美に道を開けてくれます。
生き残りの危機にさらされていますが、その美は国境を越え、何世紀もの時を超えてきました。これからもさらに国境を越え、何世紀もの時を超え、昨今の西洋の芸術者によって、彼らの伝統を源にした着想はさらに創造を力強いものにする価値があると考えます。

２つ目の聖地はアヌシー近郊のマニゴにあり、世界中にも類い稀な山々がそびえる景色を目の前に見る場所にあります。

私の計画とは：これら２つの聖地に芸術家、研究者で西洋人、日本人、どの国籍の人でもお迎えし、その方々には、知り合いもいない、言葉が分からず時間の限られた普通の旅行者ではできない生活をしていただき、京都にある普遍的な美をもっと世界に発信していく環境を可能にすることです。

マニゴ聖地に関しては、小さな京都大使館を造りたいと考えています。蔵書、オブジェ、書、楽器、茶の湯、庭、音楽。そこには日本人の先生方（茶の湯、能、書、伝統芸術）をお迎えします。そしてやはり観光客としては気づきにくいフランスの最高のものを見い出し、同時にヨーロッパの人々に先生方の芸術を披露し、京都の美を知る絶好の機会にしていただきたいと思います。

京都の聖地は私がマニゴにいる時などに（期間は数日から夏の間は２ヶ月ほど）住んでいただき、それぞれの仕事に輝きをもたらすことを期待しています。京都にいる間はフランス語か英語が話せる友人が暮らしを支えてくれます。

マニゴ聖地でも同じように芸術家や研究者に、山の頂の喧騒から遠く離れた場所で静かに落ち着いた仕事環境を提供できます（聖所の精神に則って）。

まず、この聖地の住居は当然無料でご利用いただきます。
今のところこの事業は個人的なことでありますため、旅費や諸費用はご自身で負担することとなりますことをご承知ください。
ちょうど今、京都聖地には今夏初めてのお客様、Florent Chavouet（フローレン・シャブエさん）を迎えています。

現在私はマニゴ聖地を一年中を通じてゲストを最高の状態でお迎えするために、改装を重ねているところです。
まもなく京都の友人の庭師の菅藤さんが来て、自生のもののみを使ってここに日本の庭を作ることになっています。

この計画に興味のある人はbarbery@gmail.comへご応募ください。ただしこの計画の精神を持っていることが条件になります（茶の湯、能、書、庭、伝統芸術、音楽を含む京都にある美に対し素直でそれを尊重し、伝えていこうと思うこと）。
多くの壊れやすい物がありますため、お子様はご遠慮いただきますが、配偶者やパートナーはご一緒にお越しくださって結構です。

応募にはあなたの計画をご記入いただくのみで十分です（添付資料不可！必要ならリンクのみお願いします）。
まだ実績がない若い芸術家や研究者でも、意気込みを語ってください。
判断の基準は（計画の精神への合致以外に）、情熱、才能（発展の早い段階であっても）、信頼度、誠実さと私と明確に意見交換ができるかどうかです。自分の「家」にお迎えするには、あなたには完全なる信頼が必要で、少しでも緊張をもたらすものがあってはならないと考えます。特に後者は最も重要であり、本質の問題として捉えております。

When you have luck, you must share it.

I invested in two sanctuaries.

One in Kyoto where I live most of the time. That allows me to access the pure, out-of-time, beauty that still remains there, ignored or exotized by the West : the gardens, tea ceremony, Noh, calligraphy, and all traditional workmanships that are associated with these major arts.
That beauty, now in decline or in survival, has crossed borders and centuries. It deserves to cross other borders, other centuries and to be integrated by Western artists of today and tomorrow in their traditional sources of inspiration in order to create more deep and beautiful masterpieces in the future.

The second sanctuary is located near Annecy in Manigod. It stands in front of a mountain landscape among the finest in the world.

Here is my plan: to welcome in both of these sanctuaries, artists, researchers, Westerners and Japanese, of all nationalities, in order for them to promote the universal beauty found in Kyoto and to which tourists who, even though they made the trip there, do not generally access, due to time, translator, or the right network.

The idea is to create in the Manigod sanctuary, a small cultural embassy of Kyoto (library, objects, calligraphy, chashitsu, equipments for the tea ceremony, garden, musical instruments) that would welcome regularly Japanese masters (tea, Noh , calligraphy, traditional arts). While staying there, they will discover the best of France (which they do not have access in general as tourists with limited time), while giving a European public the opportunities to discover their art and to initiate them to the beauty found in Kyoto.

The Kyoto Sanctuary would be unoccupied for these sessions in France or while I’m in Manigod : it will thus be available for artists and researchers who will benefit from this residency time (a few days to two months during the summer) to become more acquainted, in the best possible conditions, to Kyoto, and then transcribe what shines for them in this amazing place, in their works and their research. In Kyoto, Japanese friends who speak French or English will be able to assist them.

The Manigod sanctuary may also serve to artists and researchers who need a place of silence and serenity, at the top a mountain, to complete or to advance a work in the general spirit of the sanctuary project.

The principle of the residency in the sanctuaries is of course : free of charge.
But since, up to now, this is a personal initiative that I do alone, artists or researchers will have to take in charge of their travel fees and living expenses.
The Kyoto sanctuary is already active this year, as it hosts right now its first summer resident: Florent Chavouet .

I currently work for the renovation and the equipment of the Manigod sanctuary to make it fully autonomous throughout the year and ready to receive in the best conditions its future residents.
We will launch in August with Kanto San, my gardener friend of Kyoto, the basis and the structure of the “Japanese” garden in Manigod using only local trees and plants.

Anyone interested can now send his application (barbery@gmail.com) which must be in the spirit of the project (to honor, to pass on the beauty that can be found in Kyoto, including: tea, Noh, calligraphy, gardens, traditional arts, music).
The Sanctuaries are not designed to accommodate children (many fragile objects) but artists and researchers may stay with their partner.
To apply, a simple email (no attachments! Only links if needed) presenting your project is enough.
Young artists without institutional references or research students without legitimacy but passion can of course send their applications.

The criteria will be : the respect of the spirit of the project, passion, talent (even in the early stages of development), seriousness, authenticity, and the ability to communicate simply and clearly with me: I will not welcome to my house a person in whom I will not have an absolute trust and with whom I could feel the slightest hint of tension. The latter criterion, the most important, could not be more subjective and is assumed as such.

Quand on a de la chance, on la partage.

J’ai investi dans deux Sanctuaires.

L’un à Kyôto où je vis principalement. Qui me permet d’accéder à la beauté pure, hors temps, qui y reste encore, ignorée ou exotisée par l’Occident : notamment celle des jardins, de la cérémonie du thé, du nô, de la calligraphie, et de l’ensemble des artisanats traditionnels qui sont associés à ces arts majeurs.

Cette beauté-là, aujourd’hui en déclin, en survie, a traversé les frontières et les siècles. Elle mérite de traverser d’autres frontières, d’autres siècles. D’être intégrée par les artistes occidentaux d’aujourd’hui et de demain à leurs sources traditionnelles d’inspiration pour créer des œuvres plus fortes encore.

Le deuxième Sanctuaire se situe à Manigod près d’Annecy. Face à un paysage de montagnes parmi les plus beaux du monde.

Voici mon projet : accueillir dans ces Sanctuaires des artistes, des chercheurs, français et japonais, de toutes nationalités, pour qu’ils puissent promouvoir la beauté universelle qu’on trouve à Kyôto et à laquelle des touristes qui auraient pourtant fait le voyage n’ont en général pas accès faute de temps, de traducteur, de réseau ad hoc.

L’idée est de créer dans le Sanctuaire de Manigod, une petite ambassade culturelle de Kyôto (bibliothèque, objets, calligraphies, pièce et instruments pour la cérémonie du thé, jardin, musique) qui accueillerait régulièrement des maîtres japonais (de thé, de nô, de calligraphie, d’arts traditionnels). Ces derniers pourraient faire la découverte du meilleur de la France (auquel ils n’ont pas accès en général en tant que touriste disposant de peu de temps), tout en permettant à un public européen de découvrir leur art et de s’initier à la beauté qu’on trouve à Kyôto.

Le Sanctuaire de Kyôto étant inoccupé pendant ces sessions en France ou lors de ma présence à Manigod, il est mis à disposition d’artistes et de chercheurs qui pourront profiter de ce temps de résidence (de quelques jours, à deux mois pendant l’été) pour apprivoiser dans les meilleurs conditions possibles Kyôto, puis en retranscrire ce qui y brille pour eux dans leurs travaux et leurs œuvres. Sur place, à Kyôto, des amis japonais parlant français ou anglais pourront ponctuellement aider les résidents.

Le Sanctuaire de Manigod pourra également servir à des artistes et chercheurs qui auraient besoin d’une forme de « retraite » sereine, au sommet d’une montagne, face au grandiose, pour terminer un travail ou avancer un œuvre (dans l’esprit du projet général des Sanctuaires).

Le principe de la résidence dans les Sanctuaires est bien entendu la gratuité.

Ce dispositif étant une initiative personnelle, menée seul, les artistes ou chercheurs devront prendre en charge leur transport et leurs frais de séjour.

Le Sanctuaire de Kyôto est déjà actif cette année puisqu’il accueille en ce moment même et pour tout l’été son premier résident : Florent Chavouet.

Je travaille actuellement à la rénovation et à l’équipement du Sanctuaire de Manigod afin qu’il soit totalement autonome tout le long de l’année et prêt à recevoir dans les meilleures conditions ses futurs résidents.
Nous lancerons en Août avec Kanto San, mon ami jardinier de Kyôto, les bases de la structure du jardin de Manigod qui n’utilisera que des essences locales.

Toute personne intéressée peut dès à présent m’adresser sa candidature (barbery@gmail.com) qui devra impérativement s’inscrire dans l’esprit du projet (apprivoiser, honorer, transmettre la beauté qu’on trouve à Kyôto et notamment : thé, nô, calligraphie, jardins, arts traditionnels, musique).

Les Sanctuaires ne sont pas conçus pour accueillir des enfants (nombreux objets fragiles) mais les artistes et chercheurs pourront y résider avec leur conjoint.

Pour candidater, un simple mail (sans pièces jointes ! Uniquement des liens s’il en faut) présentant votre projet suffit.
De jeunes artistes sans références institutionnelles ou des étudiants chercheurs sans légitimité mais passionnés peuvent tout à fait m’adresser leur candidature.

Les critères seront – outre le respect de l’esprit du projet – la passion, le talent (même en tout début d’épanouissement), le sérieux, l’authenticité, et la capacité à communiquer dans l’évidence avec moi : je ne ferai pas entrer « chez moi » une personne en qui je n’aurai pas une confiance absolue et avec laquelle je pourrais ressentir le moindre soupçon de tension. Ce dernier critère, le plus important, est on ne peut plus subjectif et assumé comme tel.

Sentez-vous libre de transmettre cette information à tous les réseaux qui pourraient y trouver un intérêt.
